Dropshipping Country Research for Google Ads: A Three-Tool Method

Don’t choose a market from a universal list of the best countries. Your dropshipping country research for Google Ads should start with the products you actually expect to sell.

My approach is to compare three signals: estimated advertising costs, relative product interest and competitor activity. Together, they give you a more useful view of a country than a generic ranking can provide.

Quick Answer: How Should You Research Dropshipping Countries for Google Ads?

Start by entering your best-selling or likely best-selling products in Keyword Planner and comparing cost estimates by country. Then compare relative interest in Google Trends and use competitor activity as a third signal. Choose the market with the strongest combined evidence for your products, not the country that tops a generic list. Recheck current interfaces and competitor-brand advertising rules before launch.

Three-Tool Country Research Checklist

  • Keyword Planner: Compare the same product keywords across shortlisted countries to review estimated click costs and demand forecasts.
  • Google Trends: Compare product interest by country and period to see relative search interest.
  • Competitor research: Review where comparable Meta advertisers appear active to find markets that may deserve further Google Ads validation.

Step 1: Compare Product-Level Cost Estimates in Keyword Planner

My first move would be to enter your best-selling products or your strongest potential best-sellers in Google Ads Keyword Planner. Keyword Planner is a Google Ads tool that provides keyword demand forecasts and estimated advertising costs by location.

Use the same product keywords for every country you’re considering. For example, compare the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States without changing the keyword set between each location.

That consistency makes the country comparison more useful. You can see how the estimates change for the products that matter to your store, rather than comparing broad ecommerce terms that may have little connection to what you sell.

Treat the cost-per-click figures as estimates, not the exact amount you’ll pay as a new advertiser. Actual costs can vary with the auction, campaign setup and account conditions. If you need help finding and comparing the terms, follow this guide to use Google Ads Keyword Planner for product research.

Check this first because a market can show product interest while its estimated advertising costs look less suitable for your planned budget. Keyword Planner gives you the first product-specific filter.

Step 2: Compare Relative Product Interest in Google Trends

Next, enter your product terms in Google Trends. Google Trends compares relative search interest across locations and periods rather than reporting absolute search volume.

Select the same period for each market, then compare multiple keywords together. This helps when your store has several possible best-sellers and you want to see whether different countries show different patterns of interest.

For example, one product may show stronger relative interest in the UK while another appears stronger in Australia. That comparison is more useful than asking which country has the highest general demand for dropshipping products.

Don’t read a higher Trends score as a guaranteed sales result. Use it as a relative demand signal and compare it with the product-level estimates you collected in Keyword Planner.

Step 3: Use Competitor Activity as a Market Signal

Your third method is competitor ad research: reviewing where comparable advertisers appear active to identify markets worth validating with Google-specific data.

A platform such as Winning Hunter can help you examine where Meta advertisers appear active. The useful question isn’t whether their activity proves that Google Ads will work. It’s whether that activity gives you another country or product angle to investigate.

Use this signal to build or refine a shortlist, then return to Keyword Planner and Google Trends for validation. If you need a starting point for the platform, see how to research products and competitors with Winning Hunter.

Be careful with competitor-brand keywords. Bidding on a brand name doesn’t guarantee first position, cheaper traffic or a warm audience. Any use of competitor trademarks must follow the rules that apply when you launch.

Current-check note: Before launching, check the current competitor-brand and trademark rules for Google Ads. Also confirm the current interfaces and data labels in Keyword Planner, Google Trends and Winning Hunter because these details can change.

How to Combine Dropshipping Country Research for Google Ads

Don’t let one metric make the decision for you. A country with lower estimated click costs may also show weaker relative product interest. Another market may show plenty of competitor activity but less attractive Google-specific estimates.

Use this decision order:

  1. Start with product-level cost estimates: Compare Keyword Planner estimates for the same likely best-sellers.
  2. Check relative interest: Use Google Trends to compare those products across your shortlisted countries.
  3. Add competitor context: Look for active markets that deserve further validation rather than copying another advertiser automatically.
  4. Choose the strongest combined case: Select the country with the best balance of the three signals for your specific store.

You can use a list of countries commonly considered for Google Ads dropshipping to create your initial shortlist. The list shouldn’t replace your product-level research.

Once you’ve made the choice, keep your first campaign focused enough to test the assumptions behind your research. Use the same country and product focus when you launch your first dropshipping Google Ads campaign.
