  2. Google shows your products to people searching.
  3. People click. You pay for the click (PPC).

Real example

  • You spend $50.
  • You pay $0.50 per click.
  • That is 100 visitors.

If your conversion rate is 4% and your product is $50:

  • 4 sales x $50 = $200 revenue
  • $200 / $50 = 4.0 ROAS (400% return on ad spend)
 

Before you start. Your website must be ready

Google does not just look at ads. It looks at trust.

Make sure you have:

  • A real contact page
  • Shipping policy page
  • Returns policy page
  • Clear product prices and currency
  • Secure checkout (HTTPS)

Step 1. Create your Google Ads account

  1. Go to ads.google.com and create an account.
  2. Use a Gmail address. It makes linking accounts easier.
  3. Skip the “smart setup” and use Expert Mode if you see it.
  4. Add billing details (country, time zone, currency).
  5. Add your payment method.

  5. Save.

Change this setting

  • Set data retention to 14 months (if available).
 

Step 3. Create Google Merchant Center

Merchant Center powers Shopping ads.

Create the account

  1. Go to merchant.google.com.
  2. Choose “sell products online.”
  3. Add your website URL.
  4. Add business name and country.

Verify and claim your website

  • Use the HTML tag method if you want a simple copy and paste.

Add shipping and returns

  1. Add a shipping policy for the countries you ship to.
  2. Make sure delivery times match what your store says.
  3. Add your return policy URL.
  4. Set return window based on your policy (example: 14 days).

Step 4. Connect Shopify to Merchant Center

  1. Shopify Admin. Apps. Install “Google and YouTube.”
  2. Connect your Google account.
  3. Connect your Merchant Center.
  4. Choose target country and language.
  5. Complete setup and wait for review.

 

Step 5. Link everything together

If you skip this, your ads will feel blind.

Link Merchant Center to Google Ads

  1. Google Ads. Tools. Data Manager.
  2. Choose Google Merchant Center.
  3. Link the account (or request access).
  4. Approve the request inside Merchant Center.

Link Google Analytics to Google Ads

  1. Tools. Data Manager. Google Analytics 4.
  2. Link your GA4 property.
  3. Turn on importing web metrics and audiences.

Import your Purchase conversion
