If your store is blocked, don’t assume AI images and Merchant Center misrepresentation are automatically the same problem. My practical position is that you can use AI-generated images when they look realistic, credible and consistent with what you sell, but that alone does not establish Merchant Center compliance.
Google Merchant Center misrepresentation is an account-level issue associated with concerns about whether a store, business or offer can be represented reliably. AI-generated images are visuals created or materially altered using generative artificial intelligence.
Quick Answer: Can AI Images Cause Merchant Center Misrepresentation?
Review every AI-generated image and replace any that looks visibly unrealistic before requesting a Merchant Center review. My experience suggests poor AI imagery can be a credibility concern rather than the sole cause of misrepresentation. Realistic images are not a guarantee of approval, so audit the store’s wider trust signals and verify current Merchant Center requirements too.
Diagnose the Image Problem Before You Change Everything
Start by separating an obvious image credibility problem from a wider account problem. A distorted product or fake-looking scene gives you a clear image task. A credible image beside an unresolved suspension tells you to keep investigating.
AI Image Credibility Checks Before a Merchant Center Review
| What you see | Likely issue | First check |
|---|---|---|
| Obvious distortions, inconsistent products or fake-looking scenes | Image credibility problem | Replace the image with an accurate and believable alternative |
| A credible AI image but an unresolved suspension | A wider misrepresentation issue may exist | Audit business details, policies, product data and trust signals |
| An image that differs from the product or landing page | Inconsistent product representation | Compare the image, offer and landing-page details |
This diagnosis prevents you from treating image replacement as a complete suspension fix when the evidence only supports it as one useful check.
Why Unrealistic AI Images Are Worth Replacing
Replace unrealistic images even when you can’t prove they caused the suspension. In the source video, I explain that some projects were unblocked after we found unrealistic AI images and swapped them for better ones.
The useful conclusion isn’t that Google never cares about AI imagery. For your first check, judge each image by its credibility rather than only by the tool used to create it. They need to look realistic.
There’s also a customer issue. If shoppers think the product, model or setting looks fake, they may not trust the offer or buy from you.
You can read the wider distinction between AI images and Google account suspensions, but your immediate task is simple: remove visuals that weaken trust.
How to Audit AI Images and Merchant Center Misrepresentation Before Review
My first move would be to review every AI-generated website image and replace the ones that look visibly unrealistic. Don’t limit the review to your homepage. Check product pages, collections, banners, comparison graphics and any image submitted through product data.
Apply that principle with this checklist:
- Inspect the product itself. Look for warped shapes, impossible details, inconsistent colours, invented accessories or unreadable labels.
- Compare images across the store. The same product shouldn’t change appearance between a collection page, product page and ad destination.
- Match the image to the offer. Check that the pictured product, variant and included items agree with the title, description and landing page.
- Replace weak images. Use accurate, believable alternatives rather than trying to defend an image that clearly looks artificial.
- Check the current specification. Make sure your submitted images and other product data follow the current requirements.
Current-guidance check: Merchant Center image requirements and enforcement can change. Review the Merchant Center product data specification before treating an AI-generated image as compliant.
What Should You Check If Replacing Images Does Not Fix the Suspension?
Keep auditing the whole store. Replacing unrealistic images removes one credibility concern, but misrepresentation can involve whether the business, website and offers can be represented reliably.
Check that your business identity and contact details are clear and consistent. Review shipping, returns, payment information, product availability and the promises made on your landing pages. Then compare your website information with the product data submitted to Merchant Center.
Use this guide to review your Google Merchant Center trust signals. If you need a wider fix order, follow the steps to fix a suspended Merchant Center account.
Before requesting another review, finish the wider trust and consistency checks so you don’t leave obvious store problems unresolved.
What Does the Project Experience Actually Prove?
The source video reports projects where unrealistic AI images were replaced and the stores were unblocked. That supports image realism as a practical quality check. It doesn’t establish that Google ignores AI images, that every realistic image is compliant or that replacing images guarantees reinstatement.
Treat the visual audit as one part of your diagnosis. A credible image can help your store look trustworthy, but Merchant Center’s decision can still involve the wider account, website, offer and current platform requirements.
