An identity verification confirms who is behind the account.
It does not prove that every part of the store meets Merchant Center policies.
Google may review information from your website, account, promotions, products, and third-party sources when checking for misrepresentation.
Google tells merchants to request a review after they have fixed the issue. If problems remain after review attempts, a cooldown period may begin. The review button becomes unavailable during that period, and later unsuccessful reviews may lead to longer cooldowns.
The video account displayed a warning about limited review opportunities. Treat the warning shown in your own account as the source of truth.
Common Identity Verification Mistakes
Wrong payment profile
Mistake: You select the first profile without checking the legal details.
Fix: Open the profile and compare its name, address, country, and account type with your documents.
If you already submitted the wrong details, use the Google Merchant Center identity verification failed checklist before trying again.
Wrong business type
Mistake: You choose individual for a registered organization, or organization for a personal profile.
Fix: Base the choice on your legal setup and supporting documents.
Do not base it only on which bank card you use.
Different address on website and documents
Mistake: Your document shows one legal address, while the website and Google profile show another.
Fix: Find out which address is legally current. Then update incorrect information before resubmitting.
Do not edit a legal document. Update the profiles or website information that is wrong.
Requesting review too early
Mistake: Your identity is verified, so you request a review before checking the rest of the store.
Fix: Complete the website, policy, product data, and trust checks first.
A completed identity check is a milestone. It is not automatic Merchant Center approval.
Troubleshooting decision rules
- IF the correct payments profile is missing, THEN stop and check your Google payments details before submitting.
- IF your document name differs from the profile name, THEN correct the wrong profile information first.
- IF the account asks for an owner ID, THEN use the person requested in the verification flow.
- IF the upload appears frozen, THEN wait for the page to process before refreshing.
- IF identity is verified but misrepresentation remains, THEN audit the full store before requesting review.
- IF the review button is greyed out, THEN check for an unfinished identity task or an active cooldown period.
- IF several verification attempts fail, THEN stop repeating the same submission and contact Google support.
Google Merchant Center Identity Verification FAQ
Why is Google Merchant Center asking for identity verification?
Google may need to confirm the person or legal organization behind the account. The request can be part of restoring account visibility or completing another required account check.
Should I choose organization or individual?
Choose the option that matches your legal setup, payments profile, and supporting documents. Select organization for a registered organization. Select individual when the profile and activity legally belong to you as an individual.
What business document should I upload?
Use one of the document types shown inside your verification flow. Google gives official registration or tax documents as examples for organizations, but the exact accepted options may depend on your account and country.
Does my website address need to match my payments profile?
Your website should not show business information that conflicts with the legal identity submitted to Google. Check your footer, contact page, and policy pages for old or different details.
Can I request review before identity verification is complete?
In some cases, no. Google may require identity verification before the review option becomes available. Complete all open tasks shown under Needs attention.
What happens if I use the wrong payment profile?
The profile details may not match your business or identity documents. That mismatch can cause the verification to fail. Check the responsible name, address, country, and profile type before submitting.
What should I do if identity verification fails?
Read the failure message. Then compare the profile, business type, legal name, address, and uploaded images. Do not keep uploading the same incorrect file. Contact support if you cannot complete verification after several attempts.
Does identity verification guarantee Merchant Center approval?
No. Identity verification only completes the identity task. Your account can still have a misrepresentation, website, policy, or product data issue that needs to be fixed.
